How do you calculate the price of Implant Placement surgery?

Dental Implants

Price, price, price and commercial competitiveness. Market value, price comparison, commercial dumping, crushing competition… and so on. Gone are the times and trends when Medicine and its practice were outside this war without quarter, this market of aggression and aggressiveness. Treatments are sold, experiments are sold, medical services are sold at the same time, at psychological prices. It’s the market working, it is said “mouth full”.

And I respect, understand and agree, but the market has to work, comparing what is comparable, fairly, honestly and in our case, clinically and scientifically.

A medical treatment has several factors to take into account, as we can think:

  • Curriculum
  • doctors
  • Physician Capacity and Technical Experience
  • Technique learning curve
  • Quality of the material used in the treatment
  • Quality and responsiveness of the clinic’s structure
  • Quality of the clinic’s facilities
  • Training and skills of all team members
The value of academic, medical and surgical training

We cannot believe that it will be fair and honest to compare a doctor who has spent at least another 4 or 5 years studying after completing his degree with another who has not yet had the opportunity to follow the same academic and clinical path.

We should not think it is legitimate that a training that cost 4 or 5 times more money to obtain, gives the same type of knowledge, ability and experience as someone who did not do it at all, or who only did a quick and diluted training to be able to overcome important stages of training and present himself to patients with a misleading title.

But as always and in everything in life, we must bet on the side of positivism, optimism, prevention and teaching.

Necessity creates ingenuity and the lack of standardization of criteria creates opportunism and less ethical behavior

When we talk about the price of an implant surgery, for example, what factors can we be comparing and taking into account to add “to the supermarket cart” the final fee bill?

We have to add up:

  • Perhaps the most important criterion of all is that it consists of the surgeon’s “know-how”, his aptitude, knowledge, experience and surgical capacity.
  • The team that integrates the surgical moment, such as Nurse/Instrumentalist Assistant, Surgical Assistant, Circulating Assistant.
  • Equipment present in the Operating Room, from the quality of the material, vital signs control system, basic and advanced life support material.

The experience, the comfort of the patient and those who accompany him is also fundamental, from the first contact for the consultation, to the recovery room for the postoperative period.

We cannot want to believe that it is comfortable for a patient undergoing a medium-long duration surgery (2-3 hours) that as soon as the procedure is over, it is even safe, in the post-surgical decompression phase, that the patient is placed in the waiting room along with the other patients or even, discharging him from the hospital and placing him outside the Clinic.

From the patient’s point of view, informed customer

My guiding thread of this theme continues to unfold and develop around the prism of the observer, the patient, ultimately, the client…

We must be, and even more so, informed customers, in everything we buy, in all the commercial exchanges that take place, we must bring together all the factors that contribute to an informed choice. After this information is compiled, we choose according to variables, such as the degree of trust that the doctor transmits, the history of the clinic, opinions collected from other clients, consulting information online and on social networks.

And in the end will come the individual freedom of each one to choose the option that best fits the profile and what they are looking for, but always safeguarding that the comparison must be fair, and should not just be the price.

In my opinion, and it is a free opinion, conditioned only by my medical conscience and not from the point of view of a manager of my own company, there are too many clinical factors and not only when it comes to considering and choosing who will operate on us? And where, under what conditions? And after the surgery, what kind of support is made available to us:

I put in my patients, a number 24 hours a day for urgent post-surgical care, attended by a Nurse.

Placement of dental implants. And what guarantees?

The price of the implant includes a guarantee, which suffers an extension period at each annual control appointment, where I have clinical and radiological procedures that allow me to control within limits of what is clinically acceptable, the survival of the implant.

The price of the implant also includes the study, planning and diagnosis made by me and my Team, with the accurate study of Imaging, such as panoramic X-rays, CT scans when the case needs it, study models, detailed and clinical photographs, digital design programs to obtain predictability of before and after treatment with simulation in photos of the patient.

Warranty

Because at the time the contract for the placement of the implant is closed, the type of guarantees and the type of maintenance protocol that will be carried out over the years in which the patient will have the treatment in the mouth, in function, in a healthy and aesthetically favorable way, must be present.

The principles of comparison for a dental implant placement treatment are valid for any and all types of medical and dental treatment.
