The importance of bone quality in your smile

When we have a clinical, academic and surgical training based on scientific evidence, we have to give note and importance to the different types of results with the same procedure, in this case, surgical.

Speaking in more concrete and detail:

– When we place implants in the bone, in order to be able to perform immediate function, that is, so that we can place the implants and on the same day screwed teeth, each implant has to have a clamping force above a certain value, which is measured both electronically and mechanically during surgery.

And it is according to these values obtained that the decision is made during surgery.

That is, we base our decision according to radiological, clinical and medical criteria and according to our experience in this type of surgery, which we do daily and sometimes more than once a day. We decide whether the teeth are screwed in the same day, or the next morning when we do the surgery in the late afternoon.

In the world literature we see important variations in numbers, but in about 10 to 20% of surgeries in the upper jaw, we are not able to give such “immediate function”. In our individual and specific experience, in the upper jaw, about 10% of the time we are not able to screw the temporary frame on the same day.

When this situation occurs, our patients take home the bolted bottom frame and removable top frame equally, always under strict standards and high quality aesthetics.

After the months of osseointegration (healing of the implant in the bone), the final result is exactly and precisely the same, from a biological, medical, surgical and oral rehabilitation point of view.

Today we bring you a case like this, where on the day of surgery our patient did not leave the clinic with the two structures screwed, only the lower one screwed and the upper one removable.

After 4 months, the final result, already the 2 screwed.

When the bone, either in quality or in quantity, does not offer absolute security, we do not take risks. We prefer that the patient waits in a compromise solution with us for about 4 months, in some cases, it can go up to 6 to 8 months, when in addition to the poor bone quality, we still do some type of bone graft.
